I have held the full Financial Planning Certificate since 1996, the Financial Planning Diploma since 2008 and I am accredited in the internationally accepted ISO22222 benchmark for Personal Financial Planning. I subscribe to the UK regulatory body code of practice and hold a Statement of Professional Standing in good order.
My media CV has included a regular monthly slot on Bloomberg TV 'Ask the IFA', as well as appearances on BBC1 Breakfast, Channel 5 & ITV. I have guested on various radio programmes including BBC Radio 4 Moneybox Live, BBC Radio Five Live (including their Budget panel), regional local programmes and LBC. I have been a regular contributor to many industry magazines and I have answered questions for correspondents on the London Evening Standard 'This is Money' website and written articles for various consumer financial publications.
I also regularly present to my peers at financial services meetings around the UK on a variety of topics. International speaking engagements also include Europe, Asia and North America.
In December 2016 I was nominated to the Executive Committee of MDRT, a global organisation of over 60,000 financial services professionals representing over 75 nations. I am honoured to be just the third British member in almost 90 years to be selected to ultimately serve as President.
With its rich history of service and excellence, MDRT is recognised as the premier association of financial professionals. Its members have to continually demonstrate the founding principles of exceptional professional knowledge, strict ethical conduct and outstanding client services.
I am the author of "The Financial Adviser: How to be a successful practitioner". The book has been translated, and reprinted, in Korean. All my author's profits from sales of the book are distributed between financial services charities.
Voluntary positions include serving as a trustee on the Personal Finance Society Charitable Foundation, serving on the board of directors of the Life Insurance Association and a number of international best practice committees.
Away from the office I enjoy spending time with my family, keeping fit (having managed to lose over 2 stone in weight in 2008 I've managed to keep most of it off), being as 'Green' in nature as in name where possible, and in no particular order: squash, tennis, video games (from the old ZX81 and BBC Micro to the current PS4 & XboxOne), Depeche Mode (& 80s electronica in general!), cycling round Richmond park (both trail and road), black & white photos, city breaks, alternating business books with a great work of fiction, both classic and modern art, looking out for the results of Dagenham & Redbridge FC, getting back to nature at regular intervals, Sherlock Holmes, Investment Psychology, the little differences that make big differences, gardening, Las Vegas once in a while, "and many many more..."
I am married to Melissa and we have a seven year old daughter. I also have a seventeen year old son. I live a short cycle ride from the office in Putney.
Melissa and Ian have worked together since 2000 and were married in 2009 making Green Financial a family business. Their first daughter Mia was born in 2010. Melissa has held the full Financial Planning Certificate since 2002.
Growing up with a father in the air force Melissa lived in many countries before finishing her education with a degree in English Literature at Durham University.
She remains an avid reader and enthusiastic traveller.
